The College of Charleston men’s basketball team has been selected to play in the 2010 College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Cougars will play at Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, Mar. 17 with the time to be announced later. This is the first meeting between the schools.
Charleston is in the CBI for the second time in as many seasons. The Cougars went 1-1 last year, defeating Troy, 93-91, before falling to Richmond, 74-72, in the quarterfinals.
The Cougars finished the regular season with a 21-11 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the Southern Conference and have won their last five of seven games. Charleston fell to Appalachian State, 77-54, in the SoCon Tournament semifinals after defeating Chattanooga, 96-69, in the quarterfinals.
The Colonels are 20-12 overall and 11-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference and were edged by Eastern Illinois, 68-61, in the OVC Tournament quarterfinals. Justin Stommes leads EKU with 14.3 points per game.
The College Basketball Invitational is a single-elimination tournament, up until the “Best of Three” Championship Series, with all games being played at campus sites. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-seeded. The Championship Series is a “Best of Three” (home-away-home) in which the higher seeded team will host the first and last (if necessary) home games.
