College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu shared the following message on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, regarding the College’s COVID-19 protocols and mask requirements:
Dearย Campus Community,ย
Earlier today,ย theย Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued newย guidanceย aroundย wearing masks outdoorsย for Americans who are fully vaccinated fromย the coronavirus.ย ย
The CDC says people in the U.S. who are fully vaccinatedย no longer need to wear masks whenย participating in certainย outdoor activities, such as walking or attending small gatherings with family and friends who are also fully vaccinated.ย
Whileย these updated guidelines are encouraging, the College of Charleston intends to keep its current COVID-19ย guidelinesย andย protocolsย in placeย and will issue new guidance followingย spring commencement. For now, all members of the campus community as well asย campus visitors should continue to wear face masksย everywhereย on campus (indoors and outdoors) and maintain six feetย of social distancingย from others.ย
The CDC has not changed its guidance regardingย the need to wear masks at large outdoor gatherings.ย Therefore, our plans to require masks and social distancingย atย ourย spring commencementย ceremoniesย and satellite viewing locationsย remain unchanged.ย
The College intends to issue updated guidanceย for masks andย socialย gatheringsย on campusย on May 10. Until then, please keep doingย your partย to keep our campus safe.ย
