The College of Charleston believes it’s important to get the COVID-19 vaccine because it wants to protect the campus community and beyond. That’s why the College launched the Vax on the Bricks campaign this summer and has set a goal to have 90% of students vaccinated, which will allow for as normal a semester as possible. 

“We can’t wait to welcome you back this fall, and we’re excited to return to a new normal,” says Lee Penny, director of Student Health Services. “The closer we get to 90%, the bigger the collective reward.” 

The COVID-19 vaccine is completely voluntary for students. CofC President Andrew T. Hsu says students are asked to upload their vaccination status to the College’s medical records database to help in campus health and safety planning for the fall 2021 semester. 

“By getting vaccinated we increase our chances of having a disruption-free semester,” Hsu says. 

“The more information we have about our community, the better we can plan for your experience,” adds Penny.

Will students be required to receive COVID-19 vaccinations? 

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) guidelines, the College of Charleston strongly recommends its students, faculty and staff receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, please note that a COVID-19 vaccination is not required for any student to enroll or participate in campus activities at the College of Charleston and it is not required for employees to work at the College. 

    • The information entered into the Microsoft form is kept strictly confidential; neither parents nor students will receive an email that indicates their vaccination status – whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. 
    • Vaccination information will help Student Health Services during the contact-tracing process for positive individuals and close contacts. Per CDC and campus guidelines, students who have uploaded documentation of their vaccination will not be required to quarantine. All students (regardless of vaccination status) will be required to isolate if they test positive.  

When will COVID-19 vaccination clinics be held on campus for students?

College of Charleston Student Health Services is offering the COVID-19 vaccine, both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, to students, who can select which vaccine they receive.

  • Thursday, August 19  
  • Tuesday, August 24  
  • Wednesday, August 25  
  • Wednesday, September 1  

Appointments are preferred but walk-in appointments will be taken as supplies last. To schedule an appointment 

  • Log into https://cofc.medicatconnect.com.
  • Click on the appointments tab (top middle of patient portal menu bar).
  • Scroll down to “Appointment Reason” box, select “Covid Vaccine Administration.”
  • Select “Student Health Services Online Scheduling.”
  • Select “COVID Vaccine” as reason.
  • Click “Submit.”
  • Select your preferred date by clicking on the date on the calendar and then select your preferred time.
  • Complete required forms to confirm your appointment.

I am a student and already received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Can I make an appointment for the second dose at the on-campus clinic?

Yes. If you previously received the Moderna vaccine, please select an appointment for a seconddose appointment. We are unable to accommodate second-dose Pfizer vaccine appointments. 

Is there a fee for COVID-19 vaccines for students?

No. Vaccines are provided at no cost to CofC students. Insurance information will NOT be collected.
