Name: Mendi Benigni

Hometown: Dale City, Virginia

Education: B.A., Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia

Job title: Instructional Technologist, Teaching and Learning Team (TLT)

How long have you worked at the College? Since November 1999

What are your job responsibilities? My primary job is to help faculty to be the best teachers they can be and to help them with any stumbling blocks along the way. I do this through training sessions and one-on-one appointments. I’m also blessed to be able to help out some staff departments as well.

What do you like most about your job? Seeing a person implement something they never thought they could do, and when they see something they’ve done help the students learn. I love my relationship with my faculty in the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance, where I serve as the TLT liaison.

What question do you get asked most in your job and what’s your typical answer? How do I copy my OAKS courses from one semester to the next? The answer is long, but there’s a KB [knowledge base] article if you want to know.

What’s your favorite location on campus and why? Wow, that’s hard. The campus is so beautiful but so crowded, so I have a secret place (not for long) where I like to go to work: the tables behind the Delta Gamma House [17 St. Philip Street] – and not just because I’m a DG. You get to be in the sun, and it’s quiet.

What are your hobbies? I like to travel, read, crochet and I collect Depression glass, but I’m willing to try just about any craft.

What personal and/or professional accomplishment are you most proud of? Keeping my karma clean.

Name a creative work (book, movie, performance, etc.) you enjoyed recently and why. Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. I read it at least once a year. It’s just a great concept, and I love mysteries.

What was your favorite TV show growing up? Batman

What’s next on your bucket list? Seeing a Leicester City game in Leicester City.

What is something your campus colleagues would be surprised to know about you? That I almost exclusively watch action/horror movies and consider ketchup a vegetable.

What was your first job? Working in a Christmas shop.

What’s your favorite Lowcountry restaurant? Gnome

Describe your perfect day: 85 degrees with a breeze in a hammock with a book and an unlimited supply of iced tea.
