The following message regarding changes to COVID-19 protocols was shared with the College of Charleston community on Friday, Oct. 29,2021:ย

Dear Campus Community,

Asย you know,ย the Collegeย of Charlestonย and our surrounding community continue to seeย encouragingย signsย that the latest COVID-19 surge is trending downward.ย Whileย we are pleased to announceย todayย the easing of some restrictions on campus, we urge all students, employees and visitors to remain vigilantย in theย ongoingย fight against this deadly virus.ย

Please be aware of the followingย updatesย and information:ย

New Guidance on Indoorย Event Capacityย

Effective Monday, Nov. 8, the current limit of 50 people atย College-sponsoredย indoor gatheringsย (on or off campus)ย will be lifted andย will revert toย the fire codeย capacity of indoorย space. All other requirements for indoor gatheringsย remainย in place as indicated:ย

  • Face coverings are required, and social distancingย is strongly encouraged.ย ย
  • A non-student employee of the College mustย be present (in person or virtually) to help manage the event.ย
  • Eating and drinking should be very limited. Food should be pre-packaged, and we encourage providing food and drink in a โ€œto-goโ€ format as guests leave the event.ย
  • When possibleย and to minimize direct contact, events/gatherings should not include mingling or reception activities.ย
  • Maintain a list of attendees in case follow-up is needed for contact-tracing purposes.ย

New Guidance on Residence Hall Visitationย

Effectiveย Monday, Nov. 8, the current restrictions on residence-hall visitation will be amended to allow any currently enrolledย CofC student to be signed into aย residence hallย as a guest.ย The current restriction on non-CofC student guests will remain in place. Specific information regarding the guest sign-in process can be found on the Residence Life website.ย ย

Mask Mandateย

The Collegeโ€™s requirement thatย faceย masks be worn inside all campus facilities remains in place.ย

    • Age 18+ who live in long-term care settingsย
    • Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditionsย

Forย individualsย who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.ย
