College of Charleston President George Benson will step down next year and go back to teaching business classes at the school. Benson announced his resignation Thursday, but said he plans to stay on as president until the end of June 2014 so the school can conduct a thorough search for his replacement.

The College of Charleston soon will begin the search for a new president after George Benson announced Friday that he would step down in June 2014. Benson, 67, who has held the college’s top post since 2007, will be leaving several months before the end of his current contract, which runs through Feb. 28, 2015.

Volunteers teamed up with Boeing on Saturday to build an outdoor math and science classroom at the Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science. Alix Generous has had a big year, and it is getting bigger. She has presented a plan to the United Nations, researched neuropathic pain at MUSC, and researched epilepsy at Tufts Medical School. Her long-range plan is to pursue a dual M.D./Ph.D. in neuropsychopharmacology.
