The Avery Research Center presents "Brilliant Reflections: The Art of Floyd Gordon", an exhibition of stunning original works in acrylic on canvas. The exhibition will be on view from February 5 through April 30, 2014.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20, 2014, organizations at the College of Charleston are hosting or participating in several activities and events. Black sexuality and gender identities have traditionally been taboo topics – until recently. The conference focusing on that topic will be held September 18 through 21, with some events free and open to the public.
The exhibition “ Unenslaved: Rice Culture Painting by Jonathan Green” will run from August 29 through December 15, 2013. The program is free and open to the public.
"Kunta Kinteh Island: Coming Home without Shackles" shares the story of celebrated African captive Kunta Kinteh. Patricia Lessane, director of the Avery Research Center says it is possible many Charlestonians' legacies could be traced back to Kunta Kinteh Island.
Dr. Deidra Crews will speak on July 30 at 6 p.m. Her lecture, titled "Unequal: The African-American Story of Kidney Disease" is part of the annual Ernest Everett Just Prize offered by the Avery Center and MUSC.
The College is hosting South Carolina's only public reading of the letter.
Concert will be held on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m.
The symposium honoring the civil rights activist will be held on April 11.
The exhibition will be on view April 10, 2013 through May 20, 2013.
