“Experience Charleston like an insider.” That’s the invitation from the editors at a cadre of lifestyle magazines who are orchestrating Charleston Insiders’ Weekend – a joint promotion by Time, Inc. and the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. The best part is, four lucky students from the College will be behind the scenes, working with those editors to document the proceedings.
From May 1, 2015, thorough May 3, 2015, editors from Coastal Living, Departures, Food & Wine, Southern Living and Travel & Leisure magazines are in Charleston hosting over 20 events where participants will be enjoying the city’s epicurean scene, its boutique shopping and unique cultural history. To host these gatherings, the editors are being joined by some of the city’s prominent chefs, tour guides, artisans, musicians and others.
The four students – all of them experienced photographers – will be on hand to shoot these happenings, and the images they take may end up appearing in the host publications.
“I’m not certain exactly where my images may end up,” explained Jack Duncan, a studio art major concentrating on photography, “but this is definitely a great opportunity. For me, it’s something very different because I ordinarily work in silver gelatin prints, but I do shoot digital images as well. And anytime you have a chance to network with professionals in the field, that’s very important, so I’m really looking forward to this project.”
Duncan will be joined by three other students on this project: Floyd Small, Elliot Slovis and Kendall Pemberton. Follow this link for more information about Charleston Insiders’ Weekend.
