Nearly 500 high school basketball players from schools across the Southeast will be on campus Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18, 2016, as coaches from the College host their annual Team Camp. According to Camp Director J.D. Powell (a newly hired assistant basketball coach for the College’s men’s team), the camp is a great opportunity for varsity and junior varsity high school basketball teams to polish their skills in the off season.
“This is the second summer that we’ve offered our Team Camp ,” explains Powell, “and it’s proving to be very popular. Last year we had nearly 400 players in attendance. The teams that participate get the opportunity to play at least three games each day in an atmosphere that is fun, but at the same time competitively intense.”
Powell also mentioned that may of these players come to camp accompanied by their parents. “Because of that, we think it’s equally important that these young individuals have the opportunity to learn about the College of Charleston and the many academic opportunities that it offers.”
Next week, from Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24, 2016, the College will host its Day Camp for basketball players ages 7-14.
