Where can a College of Charleston student hear a motivational speaker, attend two 45-minute professional development sessions and enjoy breakfast and lunch – all for free? At the Higdon Student Leadership Center‘s annual Fall Leadership Conference, of course.
The conference takes place on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Stern Student Center. This year’s edition of the conference will feature Hilary Corna as the keynote speaker. When Corna was only 22 years old, she opted to live out her post-college dream of a business career in Asia. She bought a one-way ticket to Singapore, and soon thereafter was hired by Toyota Asia as a senior executive officer conducting Kaizen training throughout the region. Since then, she has returned to the U.S. and written a book about her experiences. That work, One White Face, is now being adapted into a screenplay.
Students who attend the conference will also experience two breakout sessions: “Global goals. Local leaders” with Anna Mahalak, the youth engagement manager at the United Nations Foundation, and “Talk Like Ted: The Secrets to a Ted-worthy Talk” with alumnus Sebastian Steadman ’04, an associate at Booz, Allen, Hamilton.
