Students at the College seem to be engaged in community service all the time, whether that’s through fraternities and sororities, the Department of Athletics or some other campus organization. That’s why it’s no surprise that the Sustainability Literacy Institute (SLI) and the Center for Civic Engagement are staging their second annual Day of Service on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019.
That day, students will meet at the Stern Student Center at 10 a.m. They’ll be broken up into teams, attend an orientation session regarding the volunteer sites and partners, given a quick lunch and then they’ll head out to those sites. The student volunteers will be working with Habitat for Humanity, Keep Charleston Beautiful, the Green Heart Project, Fisher House Foundation, and Charleston Area Senior Center & Meals on Wheels of Charleston.
This day of community service has been designed to emphasize the SLI’s 2018-19 theme of social justice and fair distribution. Students can still sign up to participate. Read about the various volunteer projects and sign up to participate here.
