The College of Charleston Faculty Research and Development Committee is now accepting third-round proposals for Faculty Research and Development Grants for the award period from August 16 to December 31, 2020. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020.

As outlined in theย Faculty Research and Development Committee Guidelines, the College provides financial support and/or grants-in-time (release from teaching one course) for faculty research, professional advancement and development projects. All grants are awarded on the basis of proposals submitted to the committee. Three rounds of grants are awarded. The first round is awarded each fall for projects conducted during the spring semester; the second round is awarded each winter for projects conducted between spring commencement and fall registration; the third round is awarded each spring for projects conducted during the following fall semester.

Updated proposal guidelines, forms and examples of successful proposals are available on theย Faculty Research and Development Committeeโ€™s website. The guidelines lay out the required format and manner of a proposal submission. In particular, this year there is a new required section on updated outcomes from previously funded Faculty Research and Development projects.

Comprised of nine faculty members, the Faculty Research and Development Committee supports and encourages faculty research, professional advancement and development at the College.

โ€œThe committee looks forward to learning about your plans for scholarship,โ€ says Michael Larsen, chair of the committee and associate professor of physics. โ€œThe more excellent work we can fund, the more we can make a compelling case that the university is doing itself a favor by investing in this resource.โ€

Please contact Larsen atย LarsenML@cofc.edu with any questions. All applications (including a cover page, proposal narrative and CV) must be submitted as one electronic PDF to Larsen by the stated deadline.
