College of Charleston departments as well as individual faculty and staff members are invited to contribute to the Cougars Care bags that the CofC Residence Hall Association will be distributing to students who are placed in quarantine and isolation spaces.

Quarantine and isolation can be very lonely and dull, and the Cougars Care bags are meant to brighten these students’ days and let them know that their CofC community is thinking of them.

Notes of encouragement are especially important. Keep in mind that the majority of the students in the quarantine spaces may not be COVID-19 positive, but have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, and messages to them should therefore not include “get well” cards. Students in the isolation spaces usually have tested positive for COVID-19 and may be experiencing symptoms, so their Cougars Care bags should have some “get well” supplies. If you or your department would like to give these students notes of encouragement, please mark the exterior of the card with either “I” (indicating a “get well” card for students in isolation) or “Q” (indicating encouragement for quarantined students).

Other supplies being collected for the Cougars Care bags include:

  • Activity books, solo games
  • Coloring books/pages
  • Crayons/colored pencils
  • Individually packaged, nonperishable snacks/candy
  • Tea bags or instant coffee
  • School supplies
  • Mental health resources
  • Fun socks
  • CofC swag

Donations will be accepted all semester and may be dropped off contact-free in the donation box at 67 George Street, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday. Notes and cards may be dropped off in the mail slot after hours. For more information, contact the Department of Residence Life at reslife@cofc.edu.
