The following message was shared with the campus community on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, regarding sustainability efforts at the College:

Dear Campus Community,

We want to share an update on changes related to the Center for Sustainable Development that will enhance ongoing sustainability efforts across the College of Charleston campus.

First, the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), a requirement of our regional accreditor, SACSCOC, “Sustainability Literacy,” and all of its academic and assessment-related activities will continue to report to the Office of the Provost.

Second, all other activities related to sustainability initiatives will now be coordinated through the Department of Facilities Management. Under the leadership of Vice President for Facilities Management, John Morris, the Office of Sustainability will continue to lead the College towards a zero waste, carbon-neutral and sustainably conscious campus. We’ll build upon our programs, such as student internships, AASHE STARS and Cougar Changemaker, to grow and expand sustainability within our operations.

We believe these changes will enhance the College’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation to create sustainable solutions.

Sincerely,

John P. Morris, P.E., CEFP, APPA Fellow
