College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu shared the following message regarding the transition back to normal operations with faculty and staff on Monday, March 8, 2021:ย

Dear Campus Community,

On Friday evening, March 5, 2021, Governor Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2021-12, which directs โ€œall state agencies to immediately expedite the transition back to normal operationsโ€ย by March 15.ย The South Carolina Department of Administration further instructed:ย โ€œAll human resources directors shall submit โ€ฆ a plan to expeditiously return all employees and staff, including non-essential employees and staff, to the workplace full time.โ€

This plan must beย submittedย to the State for review and approval by noon on Wednesday,ย March 10.ย The governorโ€™s order allows for state agencies to propose modified, or phased, plans that would extend the return of employees to campus over a period time, beyond March 15. Based on that plan, College leaders, such as division leads, will work with supervisors within their respective teams on specific employeesโ€™ schedules and timing for return.

What does this mean for the College of Charleston?

  • First and foremost, health and safety remain our universityโ€™s top priority.
  • There will be no adjustments toย springย class calendar or modalities.
  • Face coverings will still be required while on campus.

In order to comply with the governorโ€™s directives, the Collegeโ€™s leadership team is compiling a plan for the safe return to in-person work (Phase 3) as quickly as possible and will coordinate with the Department of Administration as instructed.

In the meantime, the College still encourages that throughout the spring semester, as much as possible, meetings should be held using conference calls, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other available electronic resourcesย and that we, as a campus community,ย continue to practice wise COVID-19 behavior.

The College will continue to provide timely information as it is available and encourages all employees to visit the Collegeโ€™s Back on the Bricksย website for updates.

Thank you for your continued effort on behalf of the College of Charleston!

Sincerely,

Andrew
