Where can you get personalized group fitness training for absolutely free? For CofC faculty and staff, the answer is right here at the College of Charleston: Cougar Fit!
Beginning Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, Campus Recreation Services (CRS) is offering this free circuit training/HIIT–based class to faculty and staff at 5:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Johnson Center, Room J201.
Dedicated solely to faculty and staff, Cougar Fit is designed to provide a fitness challenge for all fitness levels while emphasizing injury prevention through correct form and technique. Exercises targeting the muscle groups of the upper and lower body are performed in an interval format, allowing people of different fitness levels to participate and adjust the intensity to meet their ability.
“Even people who haven’t been to the gym in three years can do this – up to the most advanced athletes,” says CRS Fitness Coordinator Sara Coleman ’17. “Each class consists of squats, presses, lifts and curls as you strengthen, tone and define your entire body. No matter what level, you’ll see a change.”
You’ll also see an improvement in balance, flexibility, muscular strength and range of motion for daily living skills, adds Coleman, who leads Cougar Fit with junior public health major Maddie Schaner.
“Maddie has plenty of fun and sweat-tastic exercise programs in store for Cougar Fit participants!” says Coleman.
