On Sept. 23, 2021, Ed Pope, vice president of human resources at the College of Charleston, sent the following message to faculty and staff:
In support of the College’s new strategic plan, specifically Pillar 3 (Employee Experience and Success), we are pleased to update you on the status of our new telecommuting policy, which has been approved by the State Human Resources Division.
Before we roll out the program to all eligible CofC staff, we want to ensure that the process is as seamless and successful as possible. Therefore, we are initially implementing a pilot telecommuting program for up to six weeks beginning on September 23, 2021.
Three divisions/departments will take part in the pilot program:
- Division of Information Technology (IT),
- Division of University Marketing and Enrollment Planning (UMEP), and
- Office of Procurement (within the Division of Business Affairs).
During the pilot program, only employees in the above divisions/departments will be able to apply to participate in our new telecommuting program.
Prior to opening the program to broader staff participation, the pilot program will allow Human Resources to get feedback from employees and managers about aspects of the new telecommuting process and implement any needed modifications.
We appreciate your patience as we fine-tune the telecommuting process. Once the pilot telecommuting program is complete and final adjustments have been made, we will open the opportunity for telecommuting to all eligible employees and notify the campus at that time.
**For more information about the new telecommuting process (including eligibility, the application process, training, and more) please visit the new HR telecommuting website.
Thank you,
Ed
