College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu shared the following message on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, announcing a one-time $500 bonus for employees:
Dear Faculty and Staff,
As we celebrated the College’s 250th anniversary in January 2020, we were unaware and could not begin to imagine what the next 20 months would bring. We saw an unprecedented public health crisis creating daily operational issues that challenged the very core of our institution.
Yet, not only did we survive, we have also prospered. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary dedication and commitment you showed. Your perseverance in the face of adversity has brought us to where we are today. I cannot say this enough: you make a difference!
To show our appreciation, I have asked for, and the Board of Trustees has approved, a one-time bonus payment in the amount of $500 to each of you (eligibility details below). This bonus will be paid on the November 30, 2021, paycheck for all eligible employees. In order to make this happen, the College of Charleston Foundation is providing the funding, and it reflects the Foundation’s continuing support of you and the College. This recognition program will be done without impacting any of the existing $10 million of support provided to the College from the Foundation. The Foundation, with Chair Peggy Boykin’s leadership, continues to grow and expand its involvement and support to the College.
Again, I would like to thank all of you for all you have done over the past two years, and I want to recognize our Board of Trustees and the College of Charleston Foundation for acknowledging your work, your creativity and your resilience. Only with all of us working together – as we have shown, time and time again – will the College achieve its best.

College of CharlestonEligibility: All employees of the College of Charleston, including FTE faculty and staff, temporary staff and adjunct faculty, who are actively employed on November 30, 2021, and working an average of at least 30 hours per week are eligible to receive the bonus. Employees who have submitted resignations will not be eligible for the bonus. This plan does not include student employees.
