The College of Charleston Faculty Research and Development Committee is now accepting proposals for Faculty Research and Development Grants for the award period from May 16 to Aug. 15, 2022. The deadline for submission of proposals is 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022.

As outlined in the Faculty Research and Development Committee Guidelines, the College provides financial support and/or grants-in-time (release from teaching one course) for faculty research, professional advancement and development projects. All grants are awarded on the basis of proposals submitted to the committee. Three rounds of grants are awarded. The first round is awarded each fall for projects conducted during the spring semester; the second round is awarded each winter for projects conducted between spring commencement and fall registration; the third round is awarded each spring for projects conducted during the following fall semester.

Updated proposal guidelines, forms and examples of successful proposals are available on the Faculty Research and Development Committee’s website. The guidelines lay out the required format and manner of a proposal submission. Please note that there have been some changes to the guidelines and a new cover sheet. Applicants are encouraged to run proposal drafts by a committee member prior to submission.

Comprised of nine faculty members, the Faculty Research and Development Committee supports and encourages faculty research, professional advancement and development at the College.

“The committee looks forward to learning about your plans for scholarship in summer 2022,” says Michael Larsen, chair of the committee and associate professor of physics. “The more excellent work we can fund, the more we can make a compelling case that the university is doing itself a favor by investing in this resource.”
