On Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu sent the following message to faculty and staff regarding the end of the fall semester:

Dear Campus Community,

As we approach the December commencement ceremony on Saturday, I want to again thank everyone for a very successful semester. There have been many challenges, and I sincerely appreciate you, both individually and collectively, for rising to the occasion โ€“ again and again โ€“ to meet those challenges head-on with creativity, adaptability and optimism.

As students cross the TD Arena stage on Saturday afternoon, with their families cheering them on, their moment of achievement is also yours. Because of you, the College of Charleston is able to deliver on its academic mission and our institutionโ€™s promise of an impactful education.

There are too many highlights from this past semester to share in one email, but I encourage you to spend some time going through the stories featured on The College Today. In just a few minutes (or hours, if you get caught up in the wonderful TCT rabbit hole), you will be reminded of how special an academic community we truly are as you read about your colleagues, our students and our alumni. The world may have stopped temporarily, but we never did!

Before you depart for winter break, I would like to share a few items with you:

  • Be sure to pick up a take-home, rapid testing kit from the Office of Human Resources, especially if you plan to do any traveling. We have a decent supply readily available.
  • If you or your area need cloth face coverings for the start of the spring semester, please go by the lobby of the Stern Student Center to pick some up (note: the Stern Student Center will be closed for winter break between December 23 and January 3). Also, faculty may pick up N-95 masks from their respective deanโ€™s offices.
  • The COVID-19 Leadership would like your feedback regarding our face covering requirements on campus. If you can spare a moment, I encourage you to take this very brief, four-question survey: https://forms.office.com/r/1a94dqn0ky. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for your exceptional work this semester and throughout this past year in making the College of Charleston such a tremendous success. I wish you, your families and loved ones a peaceful and restful winter break. Youโ€™ve earned it!!

Sincerely,

Andrew
