The College of Charleston women’s golf team won the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Sunday, April 17, 2022, in Southport, North Carolina, punching a ticket to an NCAA Regional for the ninth time in program history. The Cougars earned their fourth CAA title since joining the league, beating second-place Delaware by 11 strokes this weekend.
CofC fired a 20-over 884 (301-291-292) at the Reserve Club at St. James to seal its first CAA Championship since 2018. The Cougars now have five conference titles including a 2006 SoCon Championship. All five league titles and all nine NCAA Regional appearances have come during the Jamie Futrell coaching era.
Sophomore Viktoria Hund and freshman Emma Schimpf went 1-2 to lead CofC to victory. After coming up just short and finishing second at last season’s CAA Championship, Hund becomes the first individual CAA Champion at CofC since Laura Fuenfstueck in 2014 and the second ever in program history.
“We played like the champions we are today,” said Futrell. “This is truly a special team. Congrats to Viktoria on her win. Birdieing her final two holes was a great way to finish it off.”
