When Kingsley Amoako-Parksย offers free “summer squash sessions,” it has nothing to do with kebabs on the grill. This summer, he is offering College of Charleston faculty and staff a series of sessions introducing them to squash, the racket sport.

KINGSLEY AMOAKOPARKS

Kingsley Amoako-Parks, the College of Charleston’s resident squash expert.

Amaoko-Parks, an adjunct faculty member in the College’s Department of Health and Human Performance, who also serves as the athletic director for Kids on Point, is an alumnus of Citysquash and former employee at Streetsquash, and has been playing the sport for more than 14 years. He captained his high school squash team in New Milford, Connecticut, and went on to play at St. Lawrence University for four years, where their highest finish was No. 2 in the country.

He has been coaching all levels of squash for five years, and now the College’s resident squash expert is offering an introduction to his favorite sport just for College of Charleston faculty and staff!

“The activity is open to all of our staff and faculty,” says Amoako-Parks, adding that squash is a full-body workout that promotes agility and flexibility, strengthens the heart muscle, increases strength and is great for mental wellbeing. “There is no obligation or cost and you can surely attend more than once.”

All 60-minuteย sessions will be held at 10 a.m. in the squash courts inside the Silcox Physical Education and Health Center at 24 George Street. The dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, June 7
  • Thursday, June 9
  • Thursday, June 30
  • Friday, July 1
  • Thursday, July 14
  • Friday, July 15
