We all dream about our retirement every once in a while. But turning those dreams into reality takes planning. Fortunately, the College of Charleston is hosting a free, four-part virtual Retirewise® workshop series at 12 p.m. on Thursdays, starting Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022.
It doesn’t matter how much or how little planning you’ve done, or if your retirement is many years away, the complimentary, practical and straightforward Retirewise workshop series will help you create a realistic financial and retirement plan that works for you. From budgeting and building an emergency fund to determining your investment options and creating a will, there’s something for everyone to learn.
Each session builds on the previous. The sessions include:
Building the Foundation (Thursday, Sept. 8): In this first session, you will explore your personal financial goals, understand the impact of compounding and inflation and learn about tax diversification and why it is so important.
Creating and Managing Wealth (Thursday, Sept. 15): In this second session, you will understand why asset allocation and portfolio diversification are essential; learn how to manage inflation, interest rate and volatility risk; and learn to create a budget that works for you.
Establishing Your Retirement Income Stream (Thursday, Sept. 22): In this third session, you will learn to shift the focus from accumulation (saving) to distribution (spending), explore the five-step retirement income planning process and learn to manage your money to help provide income for life.
Making the Most of What You Have (Thursday, Sept. 29): In this last session, you will determine how much, if any, life insurance is enough; learn to protect against unexpected expenses; and create a will and other estate-planning essentials.
