Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program

To start the Fulbright U.S. Scholar application, check the competition-specific details and eligibility requirements found in the FY23-24 Competition Awards Catalog before applying. The program website for application guidance includes helpful instructions for all materials, review criteria and eligibility for proposal submissions. Applicants may review the written application instructions or watch a video guide, both of which provide an in depth look at the Fulbright online application system and offer important guidance for all components and required materials for proposal submission.
The American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship Program

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) supports the creation and circulation of knowledge that advances understanding of humanity and human endeavors in the past, present and future with a view toward improving human experience. The ACLS Fellowship Program supports outstanding scholarship in the humanities and interpretive social sciences and invites scholars to submit research proposals in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences, in any time period, world region or humanistic methodology. The goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant, such as a monograph, articles, digital research project, critical edition or other scholarly resources. The fellowship supports projects at any stage of development and is intended to help scholars devote 6–12 continuous months to full-time research and writing.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration FY22 Marine Debris Program

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) FY22 Marine Debris Program will award up to $56 million to fund projects that remove marine debris benefiting the marine and Great Lakes habitats and communities. Funds for marine debris removal projects are provided through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was announced on June 29, 2022. The National Marine Debris Removal Competition focuses on two priorities: (1) removing large marine debris and (2) using proven interception technologies to capture marine debris throughout the coastal United States, Great Lakes, territories and Freely Associated States. Letters of intent and applications for both opportunities must be submitted through a Sea Grant Program. Interested partners should contact their local Sea Grant Chapter before applying to the National Marine Debris Challenge Competition.
The Spencer Foundation Conference Grants

The Conference Grant Program provides support to scholars to organize small research conferences, focused symposia or other forms of convening around important issues in education research. This program is intended to bring together researchers, community members, practitioners, policymakers and other important collaborators whose expertise, substantive knowledge and practice, theoretical insight or methodological expertise can advance education research. Proposals should explore understanding of research methods and how new innovative research methods can impact educational research that is grounded in advancing racial equity.
The National Institutes of Health Academic Research Enhancement Award

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions supports small-scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH, with an emphasis on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for undergraduate students and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions. The program will provide a maximum of $300,000 in direct costs for projects lasting up to three years in duration.

The Simons Foundation’s mission is to advance the frontiers of research in mathematics and the basic sciences by supporting individual investigators and their research projects. The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division invites applications for the Simons Collaborations in MPS program. The aim of the program is to stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science. The proposed project should (1) address a mathematical or theoretical topic of fundamental scientific importance, where a significant, new development creates a novel area for exploration or provides a new direction for progress in an established field; (2) have clearly defined initial activities and goals by which progress and success can be measured; and (3) involve outstanding researchers in a range of career stages.
The National Endowment for the Humanities – Collaborative Research Program

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Collaborative Research program aims to advance humanistic knowledge by fostering rich scholarship and supporting sustained collaboration by teams of two or more scholars. Collaborators may have natural or social science backgrounds, come from one or more institutions, or may be international. Researchers may propose research in a single field of study or interdisciplinary work. Projects must address humanistic questions, employ humanistic methods and aim to result in tangible or sustainable outcomes. Proposed projects are encouraged to incorporate multiple points of view and pursue new avenues of inquiry in the humanities. The program includes four project categories: (1) planning international collaboration, (2) convening, (3) manuscript preparation and (4) scholarly digital projects.
The National Science Foundation Research Coordination Networks in Undergraduate Biology Education

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Coordination Networks in Undergraduate Biology Education (RCN-UBE) program links biological research discoveries with innovations in undergraduate education to improve the learning environment in biology classrooms by building collaborative networks and developing new educational materials and pedagogies that improve the teaching of biological concepts and create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all. The program supports small groups of investigators to communicate and coordinate their research, training and education practices. The project’s theme/focus can be on any topic, and the proposed activities can cross disciplinary, organizational, geographic and international boundaries.

The Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) is the largest community foundation in South Carolina that works to create vibrant communities along South Carolina’s coast by identifying the challenges facing the region and bringing together resources to address them. CCF manages more than 700 funds established by individuals, families and organizations and awarding tens of millions of dollars in grants and scholarships each year. CCF’s competitive grants are available to organizations serving Berkeley, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton and Jasper counties. Grants support a range of projects across disciplines including, but not limited to the arts, culture, identity, equity, education, health and wellness, housing and special needs youth.
