The following message regarding College of Charleston policy management was sent to faculty and staff on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022:

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Earlier this fall, the Board of Trustees supported and passed the creation of a new Policy on Policies.

The intent behind this policy is to outline the specific steps for the creation and decommissioning of administrative policies. A major component of this policy is to promote greater transparency. As stated in the procedures related to the policy, the approval process will include a 30-day public comment period.

To that end, the College’s IT team has created a space on the College’s The Hub site for “College of Charleston Policy Management” (located on The Hub in MyPortal). On this site, faculty and staff will be able to review and post comments on the individual policies under review.

As members of the faculty and staff, you will receive a notification from this policy email address, letting you know that there is a new policy under review. The site includes a counter to let you know the deadline for posting comments. These comments will then be shared with the “policy manager” and the president’s cabinet, as necessary, before any policy is officially adopted and published on the College’s policy website.

The first policy under review pertains to the Emergency Notifications Policy, which outlines when and how the College of Charleston notifies the campus community of crimes and other emergency situations that may arise on or near campus. You may access the policy here: https://cofc.sharepoint.com/sites/hub-policy/SitePages/Emergency-Notifications-Policy-Review.aspx

Sincerely,

CofC Policy Team
