Self-nominations for a seat on the College of Charleston’s Staff Advisory Committee to the President (SAC) are open through 11:59 p.m. on April 11, 2023.

SAC serves as an advisory group to president on issues, policies and practices that affect the university and those served by the committee. The purpose of SAC is to advise the president about staff opinions concerning matters of importance to the staff and institution, to receive the president’s requests for advice and counsel regarding matters relevant to the staff, to increase awareness of the staff’s contributions to the College and to promote the recognition of outstanding staff.

SAC members will build relationships, institutional knowledge and leadership skills during their terms. Nominees should be willing to commit to meeting as an entire committee at least once a month and to meeting with their chosen subcommittee at least once a month. Organizational unit representatives are also responsible for communicating SAC initiatives with their represented units and soliciting action items for SAC to work on.

This election season is for the 2023–26 term starting July 1, 2023, but also includes a special election for an at-large seat that will serve from July 1, 2023–June 30, 2025.

The open at-large seats are as follows:

  • At-large E (special election with service term July 1, 2023–June 30, 2025) – open to all full-time, non-instructional staff representing any unit
  • At-large F – open to all full-time, non-instructional staff representing any unit
  • Temporary Staff – open to all temporary, non-instructional staff representing any unit

The election season also includes one organizational unit seat open to permanent staff from each of the following:

  • Division of Institutional Advancement
  • Department of Athletics
  • Facilities Management
  • Division of Information Technology
  • Division of Student Affairs

Any permanent, full-time staff member who occupies a non-instructional position can self-nominate for an open organizational unit seat from their respective unit. Employees with the words “president” or “provost” in their titles or who are considered senior administrative officers are not eligible to serve on SAC. Staff who serve as adjunct faculty who meet the above criteria are eligible.

To nominate yourself, complete the online nomination form. Although only self-nominations will be considered, you may suggest someone to SAC President Kate Tiller, senior associate athletics director, who will encourage the candidate to self-nominate.

The deadline to self-nominate is April 11, 2023, with an open election for candidates to follow. If you have questions, or would like additional information, please email sac@cofc.edu.
