College of Charleston sophomore golfer Kieron van Wyk has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Golfer of the Year for the second year in a row, the league announced Thursday.
van Wyk is the CAA’s first back-to-back Player of the Year since the College’s John Jonas in 2014 and 2015. van Wyk had a fantastic sophomore campaign for the Cougars, ranking in the top 100 nationally and finishing in the top 10 in three of his six events played. The sophomore from South Africa won the bank of Tennessee intercollegiate in October at 13-under and placed fifth at the CAA championship. He will compete as an individual in NCAA Regionals next week.
van Wyk made history during the 2021-22 season when he became the first Black golfer in CAA history to win individual medalist honors at the conference tournament. The Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA), in partnership with the Golf Coaches Association of American, honored van Wyk in July 2022 as the inaugural recipient of the Adrian Stills Award presented to the Black College Golfer of the Year.
