On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, College of Charleston President Andrew T. Hsu sent the following message inviting the campus community to volunteer at A Charleston Affair on Saturday, May 14:

Dear Campus Community,

For the first time in three years, the Alumni Reception now known as A Charleston Affair will be held on Saturday evening, May 14, 2022, from 7 to 10 p.m. on our main campus around the Cistern Yard. The Alumni Association has hosted this event since 1900 to welcome the College’s newest graduates into its membership. Proceeds benefit programs and scholarships for the College. More than 3,500 alumni, graduating students and their guests are expected to attend, and we hope you will consider volunteering to welcome them to the event.

Volunteer shifts will run from approximately 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., which will leave two hours for you to enjoy the event as a complimentary guest, including access to one of the VIP areas. Most volunteers will be assigned to direct guests and answer questions, so it is light duty. Attire is coat and tie/cocktail (think summer wedding or garden party). For your dancing pleasure, the Psychedelique Soul Orchestra will be on the main stage in the Cistern Yard, the Coppertones will be in the Greek Alumni Reunion in RITA 101, and DJ Kidd Shanard ’18 will be in Cougar Mall. Delicious food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be plentiful.

If you are willing to volunteer, please complete the online form at https://alumni.cofc.edu/2022-aca-saw-volunteer-form/ and the Alumni Affairs staff will invite you to a briefing to fill you in on your assignment.

Rongrong and I are excited to finally attend this event about which we’ve heard so much. It will make it all the more meaningful for our guests to have our faculty and staff welcome them home to the College.

Please join us in celebrating the Classes of ’20, ’21, and ’22 on May 14. Go Cougars!

Sincerely,

Andrew
