As part of its ongoing strategic efforts aimed at employee satisfaction and training, the College of Charleston offers two supervisor certificate programs, as well as several free webinars and other educational resources designed to support supervisors in their daily efforts.
“The supervisor certificate programs are well underway, and the feedback received thus far is that these workshops have been very valuable,” saysย Becky McManus, director of employee development and employee relations in the Office of Human Resources. “We recommend that new supervisors complete these programs within 18 months of becoming a supervisor. Our hope is that every supervisor of staff will attend all workshops through one of the offered options and obtain a certificate for both programs once all sessions and a final assessment are complete.”
The two supervisor certificate programs are as follows:
- Supervisor Essentials Certificate Program โ Focused on essential processes, policies and procedures every supervisor of staff at the College needs to know, this program includes 12 workshops, with multiple options for participation and completion. The Supervisors Essentials Certificate is awarded after participants complete all 12 courses and pass a comprehensive, open-note, final exam with a score of at least 80%.
- Supervisor Excellence Certificate Program โ Using Bolman and Dealโs four-frame model of leadership, this program focuses on developing interpersonal skills for supervisors of staff. Facilitated in partnership with Axiom Learning Solutions, this program sets supervisors up for a perfect transition into the College’s Leadership Development Program. The Supervisor Excellence Certificate is awarded after participants complete all seven courses within the program and pass a comprehensive, open-note, final exam with a score of at least 80%.
A full course schedule and options for completion are listed on the programs’ respective webpages. If supervisors cannot attend one of the virtual workshops at the scheduled time, there are alternative options to complete these workshops online through the College’s learning management system, CougarEd (cofc.myabsorb.com).
