Beginning this fall semester, students at the College of Charleston can major in meteorology, pursue a minor in healthcare and medical services management, or a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. In addition, the College has added undergraduate concentrations in digital media, operational meteorology, atmospheric physics and sustainable urbanism.

“We are excited to be offering these new programs,” said Lynn Cherry, associate provost for curriculum and institutional resources. “They not only reflect the evolving nature of the disciplines that we teach here, but collectively, they demonstrate that the College is responsive to the growing and changing needs of our students, the community and the marketplace.”

Among the new programs is an MFA in creative writing.

In addition to the new programs, graduate students can now pursue concentrations in curriculum and instruction (for those in the M.Ed. in Teaching, Learning and Advocacy program) and mathematics and statistics (for those in the M.S. in Mathematical Sciences program).

In recent years, the College has added minors in Middle Eastern and Islamic World Studies, Irish and Irish-American Studies, creative writing and a four-plus-one combined bachelors and master’s degree program in computer science.

The College continually refines its academic offerings to ensure that students study material that is relevant to the world around them. To that end, new academic programs are introduced each year.

“The College is a liberal arts and sciences university,” adds Cherry. “That’s an important part of our history and identity, so the changes we make to our academic programs are always considered in how they complement and support our liberal arts tradition.”
