Each year, the Department of Political Science hosts the William Moore Student Research Conference to afford advanced high school and college students the opportunity to formally present research. This year, the conference will take place on March 31, 2017, at the College of Charleston main campus.
The scope of research topics featured at this conference is quite broad. Past presentations have ranged from Southern and South Carolina politics, to civil rights, political extremism, educational opportunity and economic development, human geographies and world politics.
Students interested in participating can apply online. Applications are due Friday, February 17th, and any student is welcome to apply. Past editions of the conference have included majors in political science, communication, sociology, education, anthropology, international studies, women’s and gender studies and economics.
This year’s luncheon speaker at the conference will be Kayla Gilchrist from the Charleston Area Justice Ministry.
The conference is orchestrated in honor of the late William V. Moore, who taught political science at the College for nearly three decades. The conference reflects his passionate commitment to undergraduate education and improving political discourse and educational and economic opportunities for all South Carolinians.
