The College of Charleston’s Student Health Services will host a town hall discussion titled “COVID-19 ‘Ask an Expert’ Panel” on Friday, July 30, 2021, aimed at answering the CofC campus community’s questions about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We commonly hear from students and team members who are trying to navigate all the information about the pandemic,” says Lee Penny, director of Student Health Services (SHS). “We know in the last month there have been a lot of changes not only in the pandemic, but also in our response. So, this is an opportunity for students and families to learn more about why those decisions were made and how students, faculty members and employees can keep themselves safe.”
The panel will be held online via Microsoft Teams from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Members of the CofC campus community can submit anonymous questions to healthservices@cofc.edu. Please include the word “Expert” in the subject line so SHS staff know to share the question during the town hall.
Featured panelists will include Dr. Allison Eckard, division director, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina; Dr. Dee Ellen DiBona, SHS medical director, Bridget M. McLernon Sykes, SHS nurse practitioner; and Annemarie Donato, SHS nurse practitioner. All of the SHS staff participating in the panel are members of the College’s COVID-19 response team.
Penny says the panelists will be able to answer questions about the ongoing pandemic, the Delta variant, recommendations from public health organizations and the College’s response to COVID-19.
“I think it’s helpful for students and employees to see the faces of the Student Health Services COVID-19 response team and to also hear what local experts are saying,” she says. “We want to provide information about best practices and how the College of Charleston will work to keep our community safe this semester.”
