Sarah Somes ’13 knew as a sophomore at the College of Charleston that she wanted to study urban planning and take what she learned back home, to Detroit, Mich. (she grew up in nearby Grosse Pointe). She is now one of 31 fellows (chosen from 700 applicants) at Challenge Detroit, a leadership and professional development program that invites tomorrow's leaders to live, work, play, give and lead in and around the greater Detroit area for one year.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine ranked the College of Charleston as one of its “Top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges for 2014.” CofC ranked No. 60 on the in-state list, up eight spots from last year, and No. 69 on the out-of-state list, according to a news release.

Approximately 80 fifth- and sixth-graders from the Charleston County School District (CCSD) will be visiting the College of Charleston campus on December 13 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to learn more about plastics and biodegradable materials as part of the College's Literacy Outreach Initiative (LOI). These students have been reading "Tracking Trash" by Loree Griffin Burns and will visit C of C labs to participate activities related to the book.
