To honor the victims of last year's tragedy at Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Charleston developer Michael Bennett established the "Mother" Emanuel A.M.E. Endowed Scholarship for minority students from the Charleston peninsula to attend the College of Charleston. The scholarship will be awarded for the first time this fall.

Andrea Creech, a senior who is double majoring in biology and Hispanic studies, is spending the summer studying at Yale University as part of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Exceptional Research Opportunities Program. Creechโ€™s research will focus on type 2 diabetes.
