Jalen Newell is a 1967 Legacy Scholar and the Black Student Union treasurer, Student Alumni Ambassadors community outreach chair and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity/TAU ETA Chapter president.
Three of the five finalists for the Charleston County School District (CCSD) 2022 Teacher of the Year are CofC alumni: Natasha Akery, Kory Roberts and Chakadasovavan Or. The CCSD will announce the winner next month.
This year's Summer Undergraduate Research with Faculty (SURF) grant projects span a variety of academic interests, from exploring a potential new treatment for spinal cord injuries to environmentally friendly water purification techniques to the integration of video projections into lighting design.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty teaching First Year Experience courses at the College of Charleston found ways to continue offering students learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
One graduate from the College has combined her passion for dance and teaching to prepare for a career in education that she hopes will launch her into the role of a changemaker in that field.
